Stay up to date on the 2025 and 2024 referendum projects
Thanks to voter approval of a $6.65 million bond referendum in November 2025—which also unlocked an additional $5 million grant from the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB)—Cook County Schools is investing in performing arts, outdoor learning, and athletic facilities, including a modernized auditorium, new outdoor learning environments, and expanded track, field, and turf amenities.
Additionally, voter approval of Question One in the November 2024 referendum is supporting approximately $24.18 million in key improvements to our K–12 school building and grounds, including renovated classroom spaces, additional flex space, and enhanced security.

This $37 million investment in Cook County Schools is transforming learning, performing arts, outdoor education, athletics, safety, and accessibility across campus. Made possible through two successful voter-approved bond referendums, a $5 million Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB) matching grant, a $250,000 Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) grant, a $100,000 donation from the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation, and district Long-Term Facilities Maintenance (LTFM) funds, the project reflects a shared commitment from voters, community partners, and the school district.
Planned improvements include a secure, centrally monitored entrance; renovated classrooms and student support spaces; expanded commons and media areas; enhanced special education facilities; a new gymnasium, fitness area, and modernized locker rooms; upgraded restrooms and building systems; and improved site accessibility. The project also includes a modernized performing arts auditorium with updated lighting, seating, and production features; new outdoor learning environments and trail connections; and expanded athletic facilities, including a track and field complex, synthetic turf surface, upgraded baseball field lighting, ADA-accessible seating, concessions, restrooms, bleachers, and scoreboards.
Together, these improvements will create safe, accessible, and inspiring spaces that support student success, wellness, and community engagement for generations to come.
